Equipment assembly in progress at the Grodno hydroelectric plant

The main hydropower equipment is now being assembled at the new Grodno hydroelectric plant began (phase three). Chief engineers of Mavel, a supplier of equipment from the Czech Republic, have arrived at the construction site to oversee the works, BelTA learnt from the director of the plant construction directorate Vladimir Rukovitsyn. Five turbine wicket gates have already been assembled in the turbine building under the supervision of specialists from the Czech Republic. Preparatory work is now underway for the installation of five cameras of working turbine wheels. Then specialists will start to assemble metal parts of intake aspiration tunnels, which will be adjusted, fixed and then concreted. The last phase of installation of major equipment is scheduled to begin in March. This phase includes installation of the turbine shaft, turbine blades, wet testing with water in the exhaust tract, adjustment of electrical equipment. According to Vladimir Rukavitsyn, reinforcing, concrete casting and finishing works are underway at the construction site. There has already been given a start to the installation of electrical facilities and a flyover of the spillway dike. Works continue on the installation of sector gates of the first and second aisles of the spillway dike. The construction of the hydropower plant is envisaged in the state innovation development program for 2011-2015. The project is estimated at Br79.5 billion. The Grodno hydropower plant will include five turbines of the total capacity of 17MW. The construction and installation works will be completed in Q3 2012.
